7 Home Purchases Worth the Indulgence

Forbes magazine recently released a list of the seven guilt-free home purchases that are worth the splurge. Basically, purchasing the best quality you can afford in neutral, timeless styles in order to buy the item only once. Buying quality, classic pieces will save you money and reduce environmental waste. The article offers alternatives to getting the interior designer look without the interior designer price. For example, purchasing original artwork from local emerging artists.

My favorite item on this list is window coverings. Rooms instantly feel warm and indulgent with the addition of floor to ceiling drapery panels. I like to mount my curtain rods at least twelve inches past the left and right sides of the window. Mounting the panels outside the window frame makes the window feel larger and allows more light to come into the room. For a full, luxurious look, purchase enough curtain panels to cover the width of the window by double.

Below is the list of the seven splurges. For full information read about them on Forbes.

  1. Window Coverings
  2. Linens and Towels
  3. Upholstery
  4. Room-Size Rugs
  5. Mattress
  6. Original Artwork
  7. Countertops

Investing in these little splurges will make your home more luxurious and appealing. And when it comes time to sell your home, that irresistible inviting energy will better position you for a quick sale.
